New-look catalogue for 2008 means you can compare exchange and new prices
This is our most comprehensive catalogue ever with more new applications, and it’s even easier to use, with clearly defined car and light van, truck, bus, agricultural and marine sections.
The revised layout of the catalogue now makes it easy to see whether the turbo you want is available as a remanufactured exchange unit only, as a new unit only or whether you have a choice of remanufactured or new. Where there’s a choice, look for the double arrows (< >)
between the Exchange Turbo and New Turbo columns, which makes it easier to compare prices.
More brand new turbos are replacing remanufactured units
Demand for more power and economy with reduced emissions has seen increasing use of variable turbos, such as Garrett’s VNT™ (Variable Nozzle Turbine), BorgWarner’s VTG™ (Variable Turbine Geometry) and Holset’s VGT™ (Variable Geometry Turbocharger), as original equipment on cars and commercial vehicles. These turbos are highly complex, working harder with increasingly sophisticated engine management systems.
Garrett 'new only' replacement policy
This complexity means any attempt to remanufacture is fraught with difficulty, leading to potentially serious problems. To safeguard customers’ interests, Garrett will only provide new replacement units for VNT™ technology. That is why BTN, as an official Garrett aftermarket distributor, now only supplies brand new VNT™ turbochargers instead of remanufactured units.
What price peace of mind?
BTN Turbo has also reviewed its policy on remanufacturing. Where the cost of refurbishing a turbo is higher than the price of a new unit, it obviously makes sense to supply the new one.
Even if there is a marginal saving, we know most vehicle repairers would rather pay a slight premium for the peace of mind that comes from fitting a brand new turbo. We therefore only remanufacture units that offer a significant saving over the price of a new turbo.
This means you can be confident the replacement turbo is identical to the original — exactly the same turbo you would receive from an OEM, with all the settings correctly factory-calibrated to meet the vehicle manufacturer’s specification.
